
PARAMARIBO – The police will take firm action against people who disturb the peace by playing loud music in residential areas.

The Police Force Suriname (KPS) explained that it receives numerous noise complaints every day. The people who file the noise complaints are often a nuisance in the weekend and at night. The police pointed out that people organize parties with loud music and that they also play loud music through the sound system of their car. Justice and Police Minister Harish Monorath, Attorney General Garcia Pragsingh and the head of the Police Force have decided to intensify the actions of the police in order to maintain law and order. Surveillance will be beefed up in residential areas where loud music is played on a regular basis. The police will reportedly seize the sound installations if the perpetrators ignore the first warning.
