PARAMARIBO - The 34-year-old prison guard who evidently pointed a gun at a teenager was arrested Thursday. T.W. was taken into police custody after he had been questioned by investigators at the Paranam Police Bureau.

An investigation was launched after a 16-year-old boy and his 18-year-old brother had gone to this police bureau to press charges against the prison guard who is their neighbor. They told the police that their neighbor rode into the street where they live in Paranam namely the Kiezelweg and that they were standing in their driveway and the streets but that he had to go around them which infuriated him. The neighbor got off his moped to scold them but the three of them got into an argument. The prison guard got back on his moped and left but shortly afterwards he came back, pulled out a gun, fired a shot in the air and pointed his gun at the two siblings. The suspect denied having threatened the teenagers with his gun and claimed that the boys were standing in the street, cussed him and approached him which is why he deemed it necessary to point his gun at them. Footage of the incident which shows the prison guard pointing his gun at one of the brothers has reportedly gone viral. The police seized the gun and arrested the prison guard. The prison guard has reportedly been suspended by his superiors. The investigation is ongoing.
