PARAMARIBO - The peace and tranquility in the L’ Hermitageweg was unexpectedly disturbed around half past three last Saturday afternoon when a local supermarket was targeted by armed robbers.
The owner of the supermarket was tied up before the armed robbers fled the scene with a huge amount of cash. The residents made it clear that they were shocked by the incident. A female resident told Times of Suriname that she had spotted the getaway car but that she did not realize at the time what was going on. “Everything happened so fast. When I finally realized what was going on the men were already gone,” said the woman. Afterwards the woman was told that the robbers had tied up the retailer with tie-wrap “The fact that somebody was left behind helpless makes you scared. You start to realize that it also could have happened to you,” said the woman.
Local residents claimed that the armed robbers had in fact used two cars and that both cars were of the same brand and model. One of the cars was black and the other one white. Both cars were reportedly spotted in the Mangriestraat the night before the armed robbery. Local residents could recall both cars because the drivers were acting suspiciously. The police arrived shortly after the armed robbery and managed to track down and arrest the suspects swiftly. The local residents expressed relief when they heard that the suspects had already been apprehended.
