CORONIE – Residents from the Coronie District recently made it clear that they want to receive clean tap water and that they are fed up with getting brown and dirty water out of their faucets even though they pay their water Bill every month.

They have repeatedly informed the Suriname Water Company (SWM) of this problem but nothing has been done about it. Many families explained that the dirty tap water causes big problems in their daily lives. The water cannot be used for daily chores and it also triggers safety concerns. “We can do nothing when the dirty water comes out of the faucets. We have reported this problem to the SWM on numerous occasions but no solution has been presented yet. Things are worse on Saturday's because we cannot do the laundry,” said a resident from the Coronie District. The residents claim that this problem regularly pops up and that they are starting to believe that the problem will not be fixed any time soon. They want the SWM to explain what is causing this problem and how it will be addressed. But the residents from the Coronie District are not the only ones who are getting dirty tap water because the residents from Flora which is located in Paramaribo are also complaining about the same problem. The residents from Flora added that the water pressure sometimes drops and that they hardly get any water out of the tap at certain moments. “We pay out bill each month but we do not get a reliable service. Sometimes there is no water and when there is water it is dirty. That is an unacceptable situation,” said a resident from Flora.
