Kaieteur News published a story on Saturday about the murder but at the time of publication, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) did not issue a statement. However, last  Saturday, police released a statement identifying the victim as Jamal Greene, a 26-year-old mechanic of D’Urban Street, Lodge. The suspect was identified as Keon Belgrave, a 30-year-old taxi driver of Sophia Squatting Area. Belgrave is currently in police custody.

The stabbing occurred at around 13:30h. Belgrave was reportedly driving his car south along Albert Street while Greene was riding behind him. “It is alleged that the victim rode up alongside the suspect and told the suspect (Belgrave) that he should have hit him with his car,” police stated. Greene then rode up a short distance and stopped his motorcycle. Belgrave drove to the area Greene stopped and exited his car.

An eyewitness, who was at a store located at the corner of Robb and Albert Streets told police that he saw Greene hit Belgrave with a piece of iron to his back. Belgrave then entered his car and returned armed with a knife. He approached the victim and a scuffle ensued during which he stabbed the victim three times to the back causing the victim to fall to the ground. The deadly scuffle was caught on camera. A cellphone recorded video showed Greene attacking an armed Belgrave during the scuffle.

Greene fell on top of him and then suddenly started screaming, “Ahhhhhh”. Persons intervened and soon realized that he had been stabbed. An ambulance was called to the scene and Greene was reportedly rushed to the hospital where he died while receiving treatment. Belgrave was reportedly arrested at the scene. (Kaieteur News)
