happened near Royal Hill which is located within its concession. RGM claimed that trespassers who were hiding in the forest opened fire on a security guard who was patrolling the area around 22:10. The security guard was shot in his left leg and was taken to the clinic of the RGM before being taken to the Emergency Room of the Academic Hospital Paramaribo (AZP). He is still recovering at the hospital. The company is closely monitoring his condition. The incident is one of many but it is the most serious one. On August 2nd intruders threw pebbles at a security guard who lost a tooth as a result of the assault. Security guards who are stationed at the mining well are pelted with pebbles on a daily basis. The RGM which has reported the incidents to the police has called the authorities to launch an investigation and to identify and prosecute the perpetrators.
