at the mandatory registration of all state employees will be frozen as of March. These state employees also ignored the final round of registrations.

Mohamed Nasier Eskak, director at the Ministry of Home Affairs (BIZA) told Times of Suriname that the registration round was concluded last Friday. The registration was intended for state employees who were hired before and on February 28th, 2023 and who still had not shown up at the registration center. “This was their last chance. We had expected 2,154 people to show up but only 270 state employees actually showed up. Most of them indicated that they no longer want to work for the government. It is a necessary steps to repair the payment of salaries within the government,” said Nasier Eskak who added that “it is a clear sign that many people from this group have not been active within the government for many years. “Some of them have not shown up at work for the past 15 to 20 years.” The mandatory registration was officially concluded last Friday. “Everything is in the system. As soon as the information has been processed, the exact numbers will be available,” said Eskak. The salaries of the people who are part of the group of 2,154 who failed to get registered will be frozen. The other state employees who answered the call have some explaining to do. “These people will be summoned to explain where they were the entire time and if they actually performed labor,” said Eskak who made it clear that there are no more second chances for the people who steered clear from the registration center.

“You can’t fail to show up at work for years and still receive a salary while others leave their home early and work hard for the same salary. That is not fair.”
