People who are over 60, those with a disability and people who have more than 4 children can request a Christmas parcel. The Salvation Army will screen all of the applicants to determine if they meet all of the requirements. The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign which is aimed at collecting donations from the public will be concluded on December 31st. The iconic red kettles are located at strategic locations throughout the city but also in the other districts. The distribution of the Christmas parcels will take place in Paramaribo on December 18th and in Nickerie on December 19th. Christmas parcels will also be handed out in the districts Para, Coronie, Commewijne and Saramacca via the offices of the district commissioners. At the start of the Red Kettle campaign Demon had announced that the Salvation Army aimed at reeling in
SRD 1 million so that it could give two thousand people a Christmas parcel. Each parcel will have an estimated value of SRD 750. The red kettles are located at Kirpalani, Hakrinbank, De Surinaamsche Bank, Beni’s Lighting Trading, Lucky Store, Tulip, Times Mall and the Hermitage Mall.
