PARAMARIBO - The Salvation Army launched its Red Kettle campaign for the 101st time at the headquarters located in the Henck Arronstraat last Saturday.

The Kerk van Jezus Christus van de Heiligen der Laatste Dagen donated 100 parcels. Stichting 12-12-12 was first in line to make a donation. The chairman of the foundation, Ben Olivieira, transferred SRD 40,000 and personally put SRD 10,000 in the red kettle. The Red Kettle campaign which will be carried out in several districts will be concluded at the end of December. A week before Christmas the Salvation Army will organize a registration of people who need a Christmas parcel.
Olivieira revealed that he has supported the Red Kettle campaign for ten consecutive years. “I started with a donation of SRD 2,000. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the nation’s anniversary I decided to donate SRD 50,000 to the Salvation Army,” said Oliveira. An official from the Salvation Army revealed that the organization aims at regeling in SRD 1 million this year so that the Salvation Army can make two thousand people happy with a Christmas parcel.
The red kettles will be at Kirpalani, Hakrinbank, De Surinaamsche Bank (DSB), Beni’s Lighting Trading, Lucky Store, Tulip, Times Mall and Hermitage Mall. People can also transfer their donation to the bank account of the Salvation Army at De Surinaamsche Bank (DSB) namely DSB 1172085 under the name of Major: Ernest Gachelin.
