The political ties between the VHP and the NPS are increasingly deteriorating even though both parties used to be political allies. The party of Gregory Rusland is increasingly moving in the di-rection of...

the NDP which is why the chairman of the VHP who is currently the president of the Republic of Suriname, Chandrikapersad Santokhi, is taking aim at both parties. Santokhi accuses the NPS of shying away from the political problems each time things became difficult but that is is currently eager to accept the responsibility of running the country now that the problems have been solved. At a campaign rally that was held in the Commewijne District recently Santokhi strongly condemned the attitude of the NPS. “We showed leadership while they decided to jump ship. And now they say that they want to run the country. Where was your sense of responsibility back then?” The chairman of the VHP claimed that the NPS made no effort to clean the mess that was left behind between 2010 and 2020 by the administration that was led by the NDP. “When you had to show leadership, you showed that you could not do it. Now that we have addressed the issues you want to take over,” said the VHP chairman who clearly felt abandoned by the NPS. If it were up to Santokhi, the NPS would lower its voice instead of pretending to play the role of leader. But Santokhi also slammed the NDP.
Santokhi pointed out that the NDP is criticizing the problems that were caused by its policy. “The same people who wanted to hand over the responsibilities because they did not know what to do with the country, want to return. The ones who caused the crisis want to present themselves as the saviors of the country,” said Santokhi who added that the NDP wants to display a new image. “They will wear masks when they approach you. After those masks are the ones who caused the problems”
