GUYANA - A 29-year-old security guard of Nismes Public Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD), was remanded to prison last Tuesday for manslaughter when she...
appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. The accused, Necose Clement, (WBD), appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman. She was not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that on August 19, 2025 at Barrack Street, Kingston, Georgetown, she killed Paul Devonish.
Sixty-three-year-old Devonish was stabbed to death last Friday. Reports are that the incident stemmed from an altercation Devonish had with an 18-year-old who also works at the same security firm, and whom he slapped twice after the teen represented another co-worker who the victim insulted. The teen then left Devonish and the female guard and went to the doctor’s quarters located at New Market and Main Streets, where Clement was on duty with his mother, Vanessa Jones.
The teen told Jones what transpired and she advised him to remain at New Market and Main Streets and that later, Clement would accompany him to retrieve his lunch bag. While heading east on Barrack Street, Kingston, Clement and the teen were approached by Devonish who was riding an electric bike. “The victim (Devonish) told the 18-year-old that he was lucky he did not ‘box off’ his head. The suspect (Clement) intervened and asked the victim why he was taking advantage of the teen, to which the victim then asked her if she had come to represent the teen,” police said. According to the police, a scuffle ensued between Devonish and Clement during which the suspect whipped out a knife from her pants pocket and stabbed the victim on his left upper thigh. Devonish was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
It is alleged that Clement threw the knife into the Lamaha Street trench after which she returned to work, collected her belongings and went to the teen’s home where she was arrested. Police said that Clement admitted to stabbing Devonish during a video/audio interview. Several persons were questioned and statements taken. Reports are that Devonish was off duty at the of the incident. Magistrate Latchman remanded the security guard and adjourned the matter to September 16, 2025. (Kaieteur News)
