their services as they are no longer able to buy fuel and pay their employees. Several owners of boats and buses have already decided to keep their buses in the garage and their boats moored.
According to several bus owners, some of their colleagues still have not been paid for services rendered in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic when they had to transport hospital employees to and from work. The bus owners made it clear that they want to get paid. The bus and boat owners also want the current bus and boat fares to be raised because those fares are based on a price of SRD 37 for 1 liter of diesel. “But 1 liter of diesel currently costs SRD 48. We are operating at a loss,” said the bus and boat owners who added that schools have already started but that they still have not received payment which is why they can no longer guarantee their services. The bus and boat owners have not been paid for services rendered since April 2025. They urge the government to pay the transportation bills that have been piling up since April. “Do we need to paralyze the transportation services first in order to get paid?”
