state of the school buildings as a result of poor maintenance. Vice President Gregory Rusland made it clear that “these problems must be addressed”. The Ministry of Education, Science and Culture is currently trying to find out how many teachers are actually available. Education Minister Dirk Currie announced recently that teachers who have already reached the retirement age would be given two additional years to stay in the classrooms but under certain conditions. The legislators are expecting the minister to answer all of their questions regarding the problems in the education sector and the solutions that the government has already come up with. VP Rusland explained that it would gradually become clear which teachers have left and which schools are facing a shortage of teachers. The information will then be used to deploy replacements to the school that are facing a teacher shortage. MP Tashana Lösche (NDP) recently asked parliament to discuss the problems that many schools are facing at the start of the new school year.
