PARAMARIBO - Due to an acute shortage of funds Stichting 1 voor 12 on December 5th stopped delivering bread to schools located in the Para District.

Reports indicate that the foundation delivered 450 freshly baked bread that had cheese, choco paste, a sausage or a fried egg in them on a daily basis.
The chairman of the foundation, Louis Vismale, confirmed that the delivery of bread to schools in Para had stopped and explained that he had hoped that 1 voor 12 would be selected during a recent public call for tenders for the official school sandwich project of the government. “But sadly we were not selected,” said Vismale who added that his foundation has gained a lot of experience as it has delivered about 5,000 breads for the past 10 years. “We do this work to help society. This is about people who really need help. But without financial support we simply cannot keep this up,” said Vismale who added that he hopes that donors or local companies will adopt the project so that the deliveries could be resumed in Para. “There are people with a big heart. We hope that they will help to give these children bread every day,” said Vismale. During the previous administration the collaboration with 1 voor 12 was terminated. The then administration claimed that it would start delivering bread to children’s homes such as Stichting Tamara and Huize Campagne. But these children’s homes never received any bread from the government. Thanks to 2 private donors 1 voor 12 could keep supporting these children’s homes. “We will keep delivering bread to these institutions until the end of December,” said Vismale who deemed it painful that other suppliers were selected for the school sandwich project although the bread of his foundation is much cheaper. “It hurts that we were not even selected to deliver bread in the Para District where we have been active for many years.”
