Reports indicate that the two suspects, D.V.F. and N.N.A., have a criminal record and that they were tracked down and arrested by officers of the Capital Offences Division, the Quick Response Team (QRT) and the Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) at a private residence located in Paramaribo. The arrests are the result of the collaboration between the Capital Offences Division, detectives from the Middle Region and the Paramaribo Region, the CIU, the QRT and the National Security Directorate (DNV). The police units also received support from Telesur after they had launched an operation in response to the growing number of reports regarding the destruction of fiber-optic cables of Telesur. Two vehicles that were allegedly used by the suspects to commit the acts of vandalism were also seized. The police found masks, a pair of gloves and a cable cutter in one of the vehicles. D.V.F. and N.N.A. are suspected of the destruction of private property and breaking into a private residence shortly after fiber-optic cables were cut. Investigators believe that the gang consists of more members and are therefore trying to track down the other suspects. The management team of Telesur applauded the police operation and pointed out that it would provide assistance whenever that becomes necessary. Telesur keeps urging people to notify the police whenever they spot suspicious activities at its network.
