
VENEZUELA – Twenty-five-year-old Jose Manuel Garvajal, a Venezuelan gold miner of Quartz Stone Backdam, Cuyuni River was remanded to prison for murder last Wednesday. The accused appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which states that on October 6, 2025 at Quartz Stone Backdam area he murdered 35-year-old gold miner Yosber Alberto Rivero Sojo, a Venezuelan national. Garvajal was remanded to prison and is expected to make his next court appearance on December 5.
The police had reported that Sojo was confronted and assaulted by a group of 12 male Venezuelan nationals on the morning of October 6. The men had accused Sojo of theft. The matter was reported to the Bartica Police Station, and when ranks visited the area, Sojo’s lifeless body was found on a main access trail. (Kaieteur News)
