PARAMARIBO – Last week the navy intercepted three vessels along the eastern border of Suriname for several violations.

The joint operation which was carried out in association with the Ministry of Agriculture, Stock Breeding and Fisheries and the Coast Guard was aimed at breeding up surveillance along the eastern border region and tracking down illegal activities. One of the vessels contained a unspecified amount of cannabis. The authorities confiscated the drugs and escorted all three vessels to Albina. The authorities also found out that the vessels were transporting fish that had been caught illegally. The navy, the Coast Guard and the Ministry of Agriculture, Stock Breeding and Fisheries emphasized their commitment to tackling illegal activities along the border and to protecting the natural resources of Suriname.
