Stock Breeding and Fisheries  (LVV), William Waidoe, told Times of Suriname that the ministry is busy addressing the problems that were detected during the trial run of the pumps. He pointed out that the electrical pump did not run smoothly and that repairs were required. Waidoe explained that the pumps are old which is why certain spare parts are not available in Suriname. The repairs can take place after the spare parts have arrived in Suriname. The Ministry of Agriculture and the Overliggend Waterschap Multipurpose Corantijn Project (OWMCP) aim at getting the Wakay pumps operational before November 1st. The farmers are dependent on the pumps to keep their crops safe.
