“We will come to work hard and honest.” The chairwoman did not make any other promises besides this one. She made it clear that there should be no doubt about the fact that if the NDP wins the elections, there will be no big projects in the first three years. Geerlings-Simons explained to the people from the  Wanica District that “Suriname has a difficult road ahead” but she also assured that “the NDP is actively preparing itself for the task of running the country. She referred to the economic challenges such as the problematic repayment of the Oppenheimer loan. The first three years in office loans will be paid off. “That loan has not been paid off and promises were made which put huge repayment obligations on the shoulders of our country in 2027. We are holding talks with national and international organizations to come up with solutions. There is a realistic chance of laying the foundation for economic stability within the first three years if all of the sectors make a contribution. “That is the promise and if you cooperate… if the private sector cooperates with us, I believe that we will get through these three years and that we will head towards a good future.”
