PARAMARIBO – The workers at the Melkcentrale Paramaribo (MCP) ended their one-day strike last Thursday.

They had gone on strike to protest against the departure of the director of the MCP, Monché Atompai, and deputy director Ritshik Adelaar. The strike ended after it was announced that Atompai had resigned. The workers made it clear during the strike that they would keep supporting the director and the deputy director and that they wanted them to keep running the company. The minister of Agriculture, Stock Breeding and Fisheries (LVV), Mike Noersalim, met with executives and the workers last Thursday. After the meeting the workers decided to end the strike and to return to their workstations even though they are still not satisfied with the current state of affairs. A worker from the MCP told Times of Suriname that they resumed their work although the future is still uncertain. The workers are still puzzled by the decisions that were made recently. The production and distribution of dairy products is up-and-running again but the situation remains tense.
