The youth counselors also urged the minister of Education and the minister of Justice and Police to provide more security during school hours. Youth Counselor Anouskha Plet explained that she recently saw a video where a group of boys could be seen fighting with each other. She condemned the fact that this video is being shared. “I urge people to refrain from sharing such videos and to instead hand it over to the police as evidence,” said Plet who urged the youths to “go to school” and to “refrain from fighting.” Youth Counselor Dwight Samuel pointed out that some students are being targeted by dropouts. “It is sad to see that students who want to go to school are being bothered by their peers who do not want to go to school,” said Samuel. A concerned woman told Times of Suriname that her 15-year-old son was repeatedly being targeted by a group of boys who do not even goed to his school. She had to get the police involved because the boys started threatening him.
