PARAMARIBO - Reports indicate that a detainee recently managed to escape from the jail house at the Keizerstraat Police Station although several police officers were on duty.
On Friday morning police officers found out that 58-year-old Jorge Eliecer Ariza Ortega who was born in Colombia was not in his jail cell. The escaped detainee is suspected of being a member of a crime organization and of breaking the law on firearms. Meanwhile the head of the Police Force Suriname has suspended 3 police officers over this jailbreak. The reputation of the Police Force Suriname has taken another hit because of the escape of a detainee from police custody. Meanwhile the Facebook page of the KPS’ MIA Zoek reported the escape of the detainees and urged people with information about the whereabouts of Ariza Ortega to share this information with the police via +597 8470223. All tips will be processed confidentially. “Your tip can make a big difference! Together we can keep our community safe!” said the message that the Police Force Suriname posted on its website.
