JAMAICA - Kingston is set to host a powerful 30-year tribute to Sizzla Kalonji at Sabina Park in October. Dubbed “Rise to the Occasion — Celebrating 30 Years of Sizzla Kalonji”,...
the Heroes’ Weekend event marks a full-circle moment in Jamaican music history, celebrating not only Sizzla’s enduring catalogue and influence but also the worldwide reach of his message that has connected Jamaica to the world.
The October 19 concert will unfold in a powerful tribute-style format, with Sizzla Kalonji receiving ‘his flowers’ from a cast of musical “bredrins”,” sistrins”, friends, and artists who’ve journeyed with him, been inspired by him and now gather to honour his legacy through electrifying performances and heartfelt moments on stage. “From the moment patrons step through the gates, they’ll be immersed in something unforgettable. A once-in-a-generation celebration, blending electrifying live performances including an artisan village, a vibrant food court for an all-in-one, festival-style experience. Rise to the Occasion is where reggae energy, passion and legacy explode on stage,” says Tamiann Johnson, curator and one of the event organisers.
“We understand and support the broader vision for Jamaica’s cultural and creative economy, and through this production, we aim to add meaningful value to the country’s calendar of world-class events and we’re beyond excited to present ‘Dadda’ in this way, right here in his hometown,” she continued. The event follows the successful “Kalonji Konversations” event in Miami, and the official proclamation presented by Jamaica’s Consul General to Miami, Oliver Mair. (Jamaica Observer)
