GUYANA - A 39-year-old Cuban man was remanded to prison, last Thursday, for the murder of his stepdaughter when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Luis Poey Alfonso of Lot 56 Pike Street, Kitty, Georgetown, is accused of stabbing to death 21-year-old Dabelis Miranda Morales on May 23, 2025, at the said address.
Alfonso appeared unrepresented before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty, who read the indictable charge to him. He was not required to enter a plea and was subsequently remanded to prison. The prosecution requested a six-week adjournment, citing ongoing investigations and the trauma experienced by the victim’s relatives. The prosecutor stated: “The mother, who is hospitalized, is still traumatized.” The matter was adjourned to July 9, 2025, for further proceedings.
According to reports, Alfonso allegedly stabbed Morales and his partner (Morales’ mother), with a chopper knife. It is believed that the incident stemmed from a dispute between Alfonso and the mother. Police reports indicate that Alfonso walked into the Kitty Police Station with the chopper in hand, which had what appeared to be blood stains. He was arrested and taken into custody. (Kaieteur News)
