GUYANA - A mysterious oily substance suspected to be diesel seeped to the surfaced of Sussex and Saffon Streets, Charlestown sparking concerns among residents and commuters of the busy route.
The substance began seeping through the surface at around 9:00 am last Monday and spread from a manhole on Sussex Street and lodged along the gutters nearby. A report has since been lodged with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and a team from the EPA, the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) and the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) visited the area. Employees of the EPA were seen scoping the area and taking samples of the substance suspected to be diesel.
Kaieteur News understands that the substance will undergo a process of testing by the EPA and a probe has been launched into the strange incident. In the interim, vehicular traffic was diverted to alternative routes to avoid the area with the suspected fuel leak. (Kaieteur News)
