GUYANA – Amecia Simon, the devastated mother of 11-year-old year Adrianna Younge, has appealed to President Irfaan Ali to assign international investigators to probe her daughter’s death,...
as the family does not trust the Guyana Police Force (GPF). Simon said President Ali assured relatives that there will be justice for the child.
The body of the 11-year-old girl was pulled from the Double Day International Hotel pool on Thursday morning by her father, Subrian Younge amid heated protest action. The child was reported missing around 14:00hrs on Wednesday during an outing with her grandmother. Despite repeated appeals for the Police to conduct a thorough search of the premises, family members claim this was not done. Furthermore, the GPF later admitted to issuing an inaccurate statement which indicated that the child left the Hotel in a red and black Toyota Raum the evening she went missing.
Relatives remained adamant that little Adrianna had not left the Hotel as surveillance footage reviewed from a neighbour’s camera only showed the child entering. To this end, the woman said that made it clear that the family does not trust the GPF to probe her daughter’s death. She broke down as she explained, ”I told him (President Ali), I said the Guyana Police Force failed us. They helped to kill my child, from the Commander right down. They know what was going on all the time.” She added that Ali did not deny the family of any if its requests, including for independent investigators to probe the matter.
Meanwhile, the woman confirmed that a Post Mortem Examination (PME) has not been completed on the child’s body but has been postponed to Monday. The PME was initially scheduled to be conducted on Friday. Simon who struggled to provide the update explained that the family has since agreed to allow a pathologist from Barbados to conduct the PME, however, they have requested that the examination be postponed until Monday.
Meanwhile, the family’s Attorney, Darren Wade in a statement on Friday evening reiterated the family’s lack of confidence in the GPF to conduct an impartial and thorough investigation into the matter. Consequently, the Lawyer said the family is demanding that the Government of Guyana (GoG) invites the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) or the Scotland Yard or the Royal Mounted Branch of Canada to investigate this matter. With regard to the Pathologist from Barbados, Dr. Shubhakar Karra Paul, relatives are calling for the GoG to disclose whether he possesses postgraduate training in anatomical pathology. “Furthermore, if such qualifications exist, we request confirmation as to whether he holds a subspecialty in forensic pathology, and if so, where he received his training in these disciplines,” the Lawyer added.
