PARAMARIBO - The frustration of the residents from Flora is reportedly growing as the illegal garbage pile at the corner of the Abiastraat and the Orvistraat is getting bigger.

Every day garbage is dumped at this street corner. Despite multiple cleanups the problem keeps popping up again and again. Residents complained that shortly after each cleanup garbage starts appearing and piling up again. Broken refrigerators, worn out chairs, old matrrasses, strollers and other things are also dumped at this location. The local residents pointed out that the illegal dumping of garbage has become a structural problem. “It is as if people wait for the garbage to be removed from this street corner so that they can start dumping more garbage. Whenever we think that the problem has been solved, the entire cycle starts all over,” said a local resident. The residents complained about the stench and the health risks that are triggered by the illegal garbage dump. They explained that the illegal garbage dump attracts rodents and that the garbage could float to other locations in case of flooding. The residents are calling on other people to refrain from dumping garbage in their neighborhood and they are also calling on the government to clean up the street corner and to take measures aimed at discouraging people from dumping their garbage illegally.
