The Heritage Village 2026 was opened at the conclusion of the Heritage Month last Friday. At the opening of the Heritage Village President Jennifer Simons and the chairperson of the Heritage Month workgroup, Rachel Pinas, emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting the Surinamese heritage. According to them, it is important for various communities to keep meeting and respecting each other and to treasure the cultural riches of Suriname together. The people who visited the Heritage Village during the weekend were introduced to music, dance, art and culinary traditions. The festival was held at the Independence Square, Waterkant, the Palm Garden, Fort Zeelandia and Waka Pasi for three days. The organization thanked all of the Surinamese people who participated in the event that was a protrayal of the nation’s cultural diversity. The Police Force Suriname (KPS) had turned the area surrounding the event into a car free zone so that the revelers could move freely and safely from one location to another.
