NICKERIE – MP Ebu Jones (NDP) recently made it.clear that the Mungra Medical Center (MMC) is currently facing a big problem as the number of nurses in this hospital is plummeting.
He explained that a growing number of nurses are going abroad to seek a better life. According to MP Jones, there are plenty of young people in the Nickerie District who are eager to apply for a job in the healthcare sector but that they can’t take the big step because of the lack of money to finance their training at the school for nurses. MP Jones made it clear that an effective policy must be formulated and implemented so that these young people could help to lift the nurse shortage. He urged the minister of Health to address the issue so that the shortage does not become bigger. MP Jones suggested that the hospital could support the students financially in exchange for working at the MMC after they have graduated.
