PARAMARIBO – MP Jerrel Pawiroredjo and MP Wedprekash Joeloemsingh recently asked Justice and Police Minister Harish Monorath to take firm action against the growing noise pollution in the country.

They specifically asked him to focus on the party buses and parties that produce loud music for many hours at night and early in the morning.
According to MP Joeloemsingh, the party buses regularly disturb the good night’s rest of hardworking citizens when they drive through residential areas while playing loud music at 3 to 4 a.m. “The music is so loud that it triggers the alarms of vehicles and buildings and these alarms then keep on blaring for a long time. Citizens therefore cannot enjoy a good night’s rest”, said MP Joeloemsingh. Minister Monorath revealed that several party buses were told to pull over because of noise complaints. MP Pawiroredjo explained that public and private parties are also a nuisance as they regularly keep citizens awake. “Citizens are entitled to a good night’s rest”, said MP Pawiroredjo who pleated for official hours when parties can be held and a stricter permit policy so that the organizers of parties do not get permission to keep partying throughout the entire night. “The police must take action when organizers do not stick to the existing rules,” said MP Pawiroredjo.
Minister Manorath took note of the concerns of the legislators who added that a growing number of citizens are starting to complain about the noise.
