PARAMARIBO - The OKGS, the committee tasked with regulating the small-scale gold mining sector, has been strengthened with two drones and a printer for ID badges.
The equipment was handed over to the OKGS as part of the Improving Environmental Management in the Small-scale Gold Mining Sector (EMSAGS) Project and will be used to keep track of the activities in the gold mining fields. Preciosa Simons, director of Mining at the Ministry of Natural Resources, and Wilson Balansi, general manager at the OKGS, signed a protocol to confirm that the OKGS has received the drones and the printer. The drones will be deployed to gather data and to make a map of the activities in the small-scale gold mining sector. The workers at the OKGS received a training on how to operate the drones. The training program was carried out by Hasselhoef MD Solutions. Meanwhile the organization has 7 certified drone operators. The EMSAGS Project is aimed at improving environment management and sustainability of the small-scale gold mining sector.
