PARAMARIBO – The Education, Science and Culture Ministry's decision to postpone the publication of the exam results of the Havo and VWO schools has led to huge disappointment and frustration among the exam candidates and their parents.

The announcement of the exam results which was scheduled to take place on Friday, July 3rd was moved to Tuesday, July 7th due to a revision of math 1 and math q. Many students who had waited anxiously for their exam results were shocked when they received the news about the delay on Thursday night. They explained that “this means that we will have to go through the suspense for a few more days “ “I waited for several weeks and I was looking forward to Friday. And then the night before the big day I suddenly get the news that the announcement has been postponed. It felt as if the ground beneath my feet had collapsed,” said one of the candidates who was clearly disappointed. The parents of the candidates also expressed their dissatisfaction because many had taken a day off to show up at their children’s school to witness this special moment. Those plans fell apart on Thursday night. “My heart is bleeding. Time and time again it seems like our children are the ones paying the price of the mistakes that are made within the system. When will the voices of students and pupils be heard? The education system is everything but child friendly,” said a woman. The students who are anxiously waiting for their results pointed out that the authorities should not have waited until the last minute to announce that they would have to wait a few more days.
