MP Rabindre Parmessar (NDP) recently made it clear that MP Asiskumar Gajadien (VHP) must gather the facts before making comments. He explained that three people were nominated by the opposition for the committee that will be tasked with amending the constitution.
MP Gajadien who is a legislator for the coalition claimed that the committee can't commence with its tasks because the opposition has not presented any candidates, with the intention to sabotage the process.
Parmessar who is also the leader of the faction of the National Democratic Party (NDP) in parliament told Times of Suriname that the decision to form this committee was made at a private session and that the opposition presented three candidates, namely MP Melvin Bouva (NDP), MP Ebu Jones (NDP) and MP Ronny Asabina (BEP). There are 7 seats on the committee. Four of these seats are for the coalition while three are for the opposition. MP Parmessar claimed that the leader of the faction of the VHP is spreading stories that are not based on the actual facts. “I realize that we are in an election race and that people want to score high points,” said Parmessar who added that a committee can't be formed hastily. According to Parmessar, the coalition wants to push through various bills that lack quality. “The bills that were pushed through, despite the warnings of the opposition had to be repaired afterwards. Haste makes waste,” said Parmessar who added that things must be discussed thoroughly before decisions can be made.
