PARAMARIBO – 24 days before Election Day Pertjajah Luhur (PL) decided to exit the administration of President Chandrikapersad Santokhi. The decision was announced by Bronto Somohardjo at a press conference on Thursday night.
Uraiqit Ramsaran who was tasked with running the Ministry of Transportation, Communications and Tourism (TCT) has also handed in his resignation. The chairman of the PL,Paul Somohardjo,who had been appointed as a presidential advisor has also resigned. Several weeks ago the PL had presented an ultimatum of 10 days to the head of state. The party wanted the head of state to put the minister of Public Works and the minister of Agriculture,Stockbreeding and Fisheries on paid leave in response to several projects being frozen due to reports of corruption. “Today is no ordinary day. Today is a turn point. We choose the path of conscience. Our plan was to help build an honest Suriname. Sometimes you have to choose between keeping your seat or keeping your soul. We decided to choose for our soul and the people,” said Bronto Somohardjo.
