CORONIE - Police officers recently managed to foil an attempt to barricade the main road in Totness. Local residents are furious because the streets in the Coronie District are being ne-glected while the ones in the Saramacca District are being kept in top shape.

They claim that the holes and cracks in the roads in Coronie are covered with a small patch of asphalt and that this quick fix does not actually solve the problem. On April 26th, 2025 the residents wanted to organize a rally and barricade the road in Totness but their attempt failed because of the swift response of the local police force which removed the barrels and bricks that had been dumped on the road. The residents want the section of the road that is in a bad shape to be given a thick asphalt layer because they claim that the roads in the Saramacca District are often given a new asphalt layer even though they are not in a bad shape. Several residents of Coronie who had planned the rally made it clear that they will let their voices be heard.
