The roof leaks whenever it rains so the stallholders must place buckets to collect the water. The stallholders recently complained that there were Brazilian bees in the building but the market superintendent claimed that “they were just ordinary bees.” Meanwhile all of the garbage has been removed and the bees which were attracted to sweet things that were discarded at the market have also disappeared. The residents from Nieuw-Nickerie pointed out that the many people including tourists visit the market which is why it is important to replace the old market.
