PARAMARIBO - Uraiqit Ramsaran who was in charge of running the Ministry of Transportatiin, Communications and Tourism (TCT) has ...
reportedly denied the president's request to come back. At the start of May Ramsaran announced at a emergency meeting of Pertjaja Luhur (PL) that he had
handed in his letter of resignation. The chairman of the PL party, Paul Somohardjo, announced that he had also resigned as state advisor. At the beginning of this week President Chandrikapersad Santokhi invited
Ramsaran to a meeting where he asked him to stay at his ministerial post.
The deputy chairman of the PL, Bronto Somohardjo, made it clear that the party would not change its mind. He pointed out that “the president had told us that we could leave.” “We gave him an ultimatum of ten days so that he could prove that he treated everyone equally and that he does not tolerate corruption. He even said that we could leave within those ten days if we wanted to leave,” said the deputy chairman who added that the PL is currently focusing on the upcoming elections.
