PARAMARIBO – As the big dry season is around the corner residents from De Goede Verwachting, Ephraimzegen and parts of Flora are once again sounding

the alarm over the weak water pressure in their neighborhoods. The residents claim that things have only gotten worse these past couple of months as they either get a little bit out water out of their faucets or no water at all. They fear that they will not receive a single drop of water in the big dry season. “We are already experiencing problems so how are we supposed to make it through the big dry season. People need water to cook, wash, clean and shower”, said a concerned citizen from Ephraimzegen. The residents explained that especially senior citizens and families with young children have been hit the hardest. Some families store water in big thanks while others dig deep into their wallets to purchase water. The residents are worried about the hygiene and public health within their neighbourhoods as having a sufficient supply of clean water is essential to preventing diseases and unhygienic situations. They there called in the Water Company Suriname (SWM) and the authorities to take swift action. “Water is a basic necessity. No body should have to worry about the scarcity of water.”
