SARAMACCA — Residents from the Amerindian village of Kalebaskreek intercepted a boat near their village on August 5th.

A speedboat that was escorting the boat fled in the direction of the village of Boskamp when the villagers were spotted. The villagers notified the Calcutta Police Station. The two men who were on the boat namely 47-year-old J.C.A.B. and 48-year-old E.B. were taken into police custody. J.C.A.B. reportedly has an expired visa while E.B. could not produce any official travel documents such as a passport. Both suspects were in possession of multiple phones, communication equipment and an unspecified amount of Surinamese dollars and foreign currency. The police also found an illegal hunting rifle, bullets and other goods. The boat and the outboard engine were seized. Both suspects are currently in jail awaiting trial. The Narcotics Brigade is reportedly in charge of the investigation.
