Teachers either have to wait several minutes before resuming their lessons or raise their voices. The noise pollution is a huge distraction that slows down the education process. “A quiet environment is essential for the development of children. When loud music regularly disrupts the lessons, it affects the concentration of the students and the work of our teachers”, said a principal. Moped riders also ride mopeds with modified exhaust pipes that make a lot of noise. The principals who want the government to put a muzzle on the noise-polluting mopeds also complained that many drivers either park their cars at unsafe locations or in the middle of the road when they drop off or pick up their children from school. Other drivers exceed the speed limit in school zones which poses a threat to the students and the teachers. Parents also expressed their concerns pointed out that school zones must be safe zones at all times. The principals urged the police to patrol the school zones regularly in order to ensure traffic safety while tackling noise pollution. They also urged drivers and moped riders to behave responsibly. “Everybody is entitled to music but that must not come at the expense of education and the safety of children”, said another principal who urged them to refrain from disrupting the lessons with their loud music and loud exhaust pipes.
