Despite previous promises that were made, they still have not seen any clear results. The teachers who still have not received payment for working overtime and other things explained that even their colleagues who were hired at the start of the new school year still have not received their salary. “This strike is not only about the delay in payments but is also aimed at the education policy and the need for an update of the salaries of teachers nationwide.

A principal from one of the technical schools pointed out that he receives calls from hundreds of concerned parents every day. “Parents ask me when the situation will return back to normal and when their children can attend classes again. Unfortunately, I can’t give a clear answer because the teachers are sticking to their demands which means that they will resume as soon as they have received payment.”

Several teachers claim that they were told that they would receive the backpayments this Wednesday at the latest. “We hope that we can receive our salary this Wednesday. We have not received any payment since October even though we have to provide for our families and pay the bills,” said a teacher.

The students also hope that the lessons will be resumed soon especially given the fact that they have to take the internal exams. They also made it clear that they understand why the teachers are on strike. “The teachers work hard and just like everybody else they are also entitled to their salary,” said several students.
