US - President Donald Trump has sharply criticized lawmakers who voted to send him a rebuke over the war in Iran, calling them "unpatriotic."

On Wednesday, the US House of Representatives passed a war powers resolution (215–208) seeking to halt Trump from taking further military action against Iran without congressional approval. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: "Yesterday, in a meaningless vote, the House voted, four bad Republicans and all of the Democrats, to limit my War Powers, right in the middle of my final negotiations to end the War with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Who would do such an unpatriotic thing." He accused Democrats of being fueled by "Trump Derangement Syndrome" and wanting the country to fail, while calling the four Republican defectors "GRANDSTANDERS" who should be "ashamed of themselves." The White House has dismissed the resolution as an unconstitutional attempt to restrict presidential power. The measure is a concurrent resolution, if passed by the Republican-controlled Senate, it would not require the president's signature but could face legal challenges. This was the fourth House attempt to rein in Trump's war powers. The Senate advanced a similar resolution in May but has yet to hold a full floor vote. Despite being largely symbolic, the resolution adds pressure on the White House to end the war as petrol prices spike and public opposition grows. The vote also highlights deepening divisions within Trump's Republican Party, coming days after a conservative revolt forced the administration to withdraw plans for a $1.8 billion fund for political allies. The four Republicans who crossed party lines were Thomas Massie, Brian Fitzpatrick, Tom Barrett, and Warren Davidson. Barrett said: "Congress alone declares war... I vote my conscience for what I think is right." (BBC)
