to address the flooding issue with temporary measures. Public Works Minister Stephen Tsang acknowledged that farmers who live in the area along Weg naar Zee are still in trouble due to the flooding issue. Although the affect of the sea water is mostly under control, the excess rain water is currently one of the biggest problems. Minister Tsang explained that there were plans to construct a new floodgate along the Brantimakkaweg as a structural solution but that the infrastructure still has not been constructed. In order to address the issue temporarily the Ministry of Public Works is considering reactivating the old floodgate located in the Henry Fernandesweg. “We will try to open that construction again so that the floodgate can work again,” said Minister Tsang who added that this measure does not guarantee a sustainable solution. Minister Tsang explained that the old floodgate constantly gets clogged because of sedimentation which is why heavy equipment should be present on site permanently to keep the waterway open. “That floodgate could get clogged again within a week,” said Minister Tsang who added that “this was the reason why it was decided to construct a new floodgate in the Brantimakkaweg.
