The new law will be published on July 1st, 2026 but will officially go into effect on January 1st, 2027. Minister Monorath explained that the government deliberately chose for a long transitional period so that citizens, importers and traffic agencies could prepare themselves for the new rules. “We do not want to implement a law without people knowing what it expects of them,” said Minister Monorath who added that the current law is outdated because it does not mention anything about e-bikes, electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles.
