Police officers from the Houttuin Police Station rushed to the scene after having received a call that somebody had drowned and found out that A.L. had gone fishing there with his father. After a while the teenager jumped in the water to cool off. Shortly afterwards the father realized that his son had been under water too long so he started searching for him but he could not find him so he notified the police. The police officer who had arrived at the scene asked the Fire Department Suriname (KBS) for assistance. The team of divers from the Fire Department Suriname came across the lifeless body of the teen during their search. Officers from the Forensics Division also arrived on the scene to conduct an investigation.
