is very important to the national security”. Pinas who was the acting commissioner before being officially appointed as commissioner last Friday explained that security is a joint responsibility of the various security forces within the country. According to Commissioner Pinas, good coordination between the police and the army is necessary to effectively address security issues. Commissioner Pinas pointed out that he will keep working towards strengthening collaboration on national, regional and international level. He will intensify the collaboration with neighboring countries and the Caribbean region while continuing consultation with the Ministry of Justice and Police. Before being installed as the 51st police commissioner of the Police Force Suriname (KPS) Pinas revealed that he wants to make some big changes within the police force.

He made it clear that without technological innovation the police will be at a disadvantage in the fight against criminals who are getting smarter. Pinas revealed that modernizing the police force is high on his agenda. “I want to introduce innovations. The use of technology is no longer a choice but a necessity. Criminal networks are often using advanced tools to stay one step ahead of the police that are sticking to their traditional methods”, said Pinas who strongly believes that the introduction of bodycams will be a major upgrade.
