organisations, and the Joint Services across every region. The Committee, chaired by minister Deodat Indar, mobilised resources across the country and massive volumes of garbage were collected and transported to the landfill, reflecting the spirit of collective action and national pride that defined today’s effort, the Department of Public Information (DPI) said in a press release.

“The National Enhancement Committee extends its gratitude to the Honourable Prime Minister and Members of Cabinet, who were all hands on deck, spearheading operations across various regions and locations throughout the country. Their presence on the ground sent a clear signal that environmental stewardship is a national priority at the highest levels of government”, the release added.

According to the release, the scale of Saturday’s achievement would not have been possible without the remarkable contribution of youth and civil society groups, organisations, mandirs, mosques, churches, community bodies, and a wide coalition of private sector companies and public agencies across the regions who mobilised and donated equipment, vehicles, personnel, and logistical support to the initiative. Their initiative and willingness to act reinforced the truly national character of today’s exercise. “Today showed exactly what Guyanese can accomplish when we come together with a shared purpose,” said Minister Indar. “The volume of waste removed in a single day speaks to the resolve of our people. I want to extend my deepest thanks to every volunteer, every organisation, and every company that made this happen.” The National Enhancement Committee wishes to formally recognise and extend sincere gratitude to the following organisations whose generous contributions of equipment, vehicles, personnel, and resources were instrumental to today’s success: GAICO; Zeebo and Sons Construction;  Japarts; Puran Brothers; Cevons Waste Management; SAWA Investment Inc.; Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Private Sector Commission; Guyana Defense Force; Men on Mission; Ministry of Local Government; Chinese Association of Guyana; XL Engineering; S. Joree and Sons; M & B Construction; R. Persid Construction; Macro Investment Inc.; Tiger Tanks; ENVIRO Waste Management Services; Lions Club of Guyana and Regional private sector groups across Regions 1 to 10. (Kaieteur News)
