PARAMARIBO – The director of Airport Management N.V., Vijay Chotkan, recently assured the nation that “there is currently enough jet fuel...

available for international flights that arrive in Suriname”. Despite the global reports about possible shortages of jet fuel, Chotkan emphasized that there are currently no indications that Suriname will be affected. The war in Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz have severely constrained Europe’s jet fuel supply, while jet fuel prices have spiked to over $200 per barrel. Director Chotkan gave his reassurance that the situation is still stable at the Johan Adolf Pengel (JAP) International Airport and explained that no possible shortage of jet fuel has been reported so far. There are currently two suppliers active on Suriname’s international airport namely GOw2 and SOL. According to Chotkan, these companies have not indicated that the supplies are under pressure. About six to eight international flights are processed at the international airport on a daily basis. Every now and then private jets also arrive at JAP International Airport that also require refueling. Although there is currently no information available about the amount of the fuel that goes to airlines, Chotkan emphasized that the current supply is enough to cover daily operations.
