forcing the local residents to dig deep into their wallets because they have to opt for other bureaus and in some cases have to travel all the way to Paramaribo when they need official papers. The residents explained that the BvB at Koewarasan has been closed for nearly a month and that they experience much inconvenience especially when there is heavy rainfall. It is still not clear why the BvB at Koewarasan was closed or when it will be reopened for business. “We are dependent on the bus and have to pay the bus fare twice just to get a certificate. At the end of the day one has to pay for four bus rides while one could just walk to the local bureau to obtain the documents”, said a local resident. The director of the Bureau for Civic Affairs could not be reached for comment.
