The arrest followed after the police had received a tip about a pickup truck that was most likely transporting diesel illegally. The Regional Support Team West (RBTW) spotted the vehicle in the driveway of a private residence located along the Delhiweg. There were three big barrels of fuel in the back of the white pickup truck. Reports indicate that the special police unit intercepted three thousand liters of diesel. The driver who was identified as NS claimed that he is an entrepreneur and confessed to having smuggled fuel from Guyana into Suriname. The owner of the private residence told the police that the suspect had asked her for permission to park his vehicle in her driveway because he was having engine trouble. The security footage from the private residence was seized. The suspect was taken into police custody and the fuel, his vehicle and his smartphone were confiscated. The police did not rule out that more arrests could follow.
